GOOGLE TRENDS: February 14th – 20th, 2015

This is my recap of the top searches for the week of February 14th – 20th, as according to Google Trends:

Valentine’s Day

This past weekend was Valentine’s Day, which meant a lot of searching for quotes about love to send to significant others, friends and family. Not much love seemed to be in the air, however. In Canada, police foiled a Valentine’s Day mass shooting at a mall, while a blizzard warning was issued in six New England states as the fourth major snowstorm of the season. Talk about “cold-hearted”.

Saturday Night Live

SNL’s 40th anniversary special aired Sunday night on NBC. It received some of the network’s best ratings in years, attracting an estimated 23.1 million viewers. A reported 1.3 million Tweets were sent about SNL as well, generating about 188 million Twitter TV impressions.

Some highlights of the event included Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s opening, “The Californians” featuring Betty White and Bradley Cooper, Super Bass-O-Matic, Wayne’s World, a music medley featuring Bill Murray and Maya Rudolph (as Beyoncé), and a weekend update featuring Jane Curtin, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Growing Trends

Last week, Iggy Azalea made Twitter headlines when her cell phone number was given out by a pizza delivery guy. This week, Iggy quit Twitter altogether after “merciless trolling” post paparazzi pictures of her in a bikini.

With March Madness around the corner, NBA searches are sure to become popular as the 2015 basketball season kicked off this month. 11 NBA trades were made this week, involving star athletes like Kevin Garnett, Reggie Jackson, Goran Dragic, Miles Plumlee, Brandon Knight and Amar’e Stoudemire.
