This is my recap of the top searches for the week of April 11th – 17th, as according to Google Trends:

The Sentencing of Aaron Hernandez

Former New England Patriots’ star Aaron Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday. He was convicted of first-degree murder for shooting Odin Lloyd in February, 2013. However, as he is entitled, Hernandez will be appealing to Boston’s highest court – which is a process that could take years.

Madonna Kissed Drake at Coachella

Not much happened in the way of Google this week, as demonstrated by the hubbub surrounding Madonna kissing Drake at Coachella ranking second for the week with approximately 500,000 searches. The internet was abuzz after her performance on April 12th, flowing with debate about whether the singer’s age inferred her affection toward the rapper being inappropriate. Regardless, everyone from Taylor Swift to Rita Ora was piping up in support of Madonna’s performance.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Olivia Munn joined the cast of “X-Men: Apocalypse as Psylocke”.
  • The Southeast Warren School District is giving all its employees pink slips.
  • Ben & Jerry’s is developing a “Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale” beer for release in the fall of 2015.
  • Google added the “Find my Phone” function to their Android applications.
  • Willie Nelson was rumored to have died for the second time.
