Submitting a promotion in Google Shopping is a great way to increase the click through rate on your ads and sell more products on your eCommerce store. Here’s a quick how-to guide to submitting your first promotion.
Setting up your Google Shopping Promotions
If you have not run a promotion on Google Shopping before, you must first apply for Google Shopping promotions in the Google Merchant Center. After your application has been accepted, you will see a tab called Promotions appear in the side bar when you log into the Merchant Center. After clicking on the promotions tab, select the +PROMOTION button and fill out the necessary information for you new promotion.
Promo ID – This is a unique ID that can only be submitted once. I usually use the promo code with a -1 at the end. For example, Promo-1
Target Country and Language – Select the country where the promotion will be applied.
Title – Your promotion title must state what the promotion is and what products it applies for. It can be a maximum of 50 characters in length.
- Example: 50% off all white tennis shoes!
Redemption Code: The promo code must be included if the customer is required to use it to redeem the discount.
Product applicability: If submitting the promotion using a data feed, use the format All_Products or Specific_Products
Effective Date Range: The dates the promotion will be effective on your website. If submitting the promotion using a data feed, it must be formatted year-month-day, time (24 hour format), time zone (-08:00 for Pacific, -05:00 for Eastern, etc.)
- Example: 2015-04-29T03:00:00-05:00/2015-5-29T21:00:00-05:00
