Freebooting is downloading a video and re-uploading it to your website or social network without permission to do so, or claiming it as your own. This form of digital plagiarism often creates revenue loss for the original creator and can sometimes create revenue for the freebooter or for the site to which it is re-uploaded.
An example of freebooting is when someone downloads a popular YouTube video and re-uploads it to their website, drawing traffic away from the original upload – and taking away any revenue the original upload may have garnered.
